Why did none of the regular STRR refs show up to Dallas this weekend. The referees were horrible.

Technically speaking, shoud the designated touch judges assist the referees when line outs are not straight? I thought that was one of the things they could bring to the refs attention and in Texas it NEVER happens.
I understand touch judges are usually casually appointed prior to kick off - but shouldn`t the the ref be responsible for talking with them about incidents they can help with? Would make a game flow so much better given the lack of experience TX refs have.

If the ball is placed on the Tee for a conversion, the kicker then takes 2 steps towards the ball as if he was going to kick, then the ball falls over, while the opponents are rushing the ball, is the Place Kicker allowed to reset the ball with the Referee making the opponents return to the goal line?

What is the correct ruling regarding a ball that is passed from in front of the 22 and kicked to touch from behind 22? I was under the impression that the rule was still a line out to non kicking team where the ball entered touch rather than the ball being brought back to the place of kick for being straight out. Isn`t this one of the new experimental super 14 rules? A ref on saturday told me that the rule has always been this way.

If it`s true that the TRU is not giving payment to the STRR for services rendered, couldn`t the member clubs choose to not include payments for referee dues to the TRU and just send it straight to the STRR? If every club refused to pay then the maybe the TRU would realize that the players are tired of being on the raw end of a mommy and daddy battle.

Question:   Read 1 answer(s)
if it is important enough to have cup matches to determine who will represent the TRUs at the next level (i.e. - Westerns), it seems to follow that there would be a referee available for each cup match instead of working a high school tourney somewhere. When a good D2 match has no ref and it is a cup match that COULD have imopact it just seems wrong that one of the coaches would have to call it. I`m just saying...

    Hello,

Thank you for maintaining this website. I have a question that deals with penalty trys. First off I would like to say i am asking this question to better understand the game and to improve my knowledge in various situations pertaining to game flow and penalty trys.

It was the closing seconds of a great match (my side up by 6 points) and my team committed a penalty inside our own 22. The opposition quick tapped and my side failed to retreat 10meters prior to attempting to tackle. The opposition was awarded another penalty (at approximately the 10 meter mark) and quickly advanced the ball prior to my side being totally onsides (I don’t really think that is a major factor but adding it anyway, most of my side were onsides at the time of the second quick tap and I don’t believe that the ref dinged us on this issue). The opposition charged hard on with a strong runner and was brought down at the 5 meter mark. I was an onsides tackler and the ball carrier was halfway on top of me, as we went to the ground. I rolled ball carrier over to my side so our side was presented the ball and was penalized for I believe playing the ball on the ground or not releasing the ball carrier so he could release the ball (when talking with the ref later on he informed me that the tackle had stopped motion then I quickly rolled the attacking player to my side).

I am unsure on when, where and why a penalty try should be awarded? Especially since my actions happened after the ball carrier`s forward motion was stopped in a legal onside tackle and both players were on the deck when the infraction happened.
